Welcome to my portfolio!
My name is Nicole-Marie, but I go by Nicole for short. For four years, I was a a student journalist in a small town in Southeast Kansas called Pittsburg. Now, I'm a news correspondent at the University Daily Kansan. Storytelling has run in my blood ever since I was a 12-year-old girl calling publishers in New York City to get my novel published. This portfolio, which I first created as editor-in-chief of an award-winning high school newspaper, named me the 2019 Kansas Student Journalist of the Year.
I aim for my journalism to change the world around me. Telling the stories of Pittsburg High School has shaped me into the person I am today. Every tear shed, every revision made and every interview completed has been so worth it.
This website is a compilation of my best work in student journalism to date. Enjoy.
My article on the safety of the roads surrounding our school ran in October 2017. In August 2018, the city announced it would implement a four-way stop sign, school speed zone and rerouted bus system.
